Glittering Waste Project Event
"Glittering Waste" Exhibition Meets Art Lovers
Organized by the Malatya Turgut Özal University Journey to Traces of Time Group, the "Glittering Waste" exhibition was presented to art lovers through a special project that transforms waste glass into art.
The exhibition, held in the Malatya Metropolitan Municipality MABESEM Building Foyer, was part of the Ministry of Youth and Sports' UNIDES project. The exhibition, which repurposes waste glass into aesthetically pleasing works through recycling, highlighted sustainability and environmental awareness.
This meaningful project, which combines environmental awareness and art, attracted considerable interest from art lovers. The exhibition featured mosaics created by melting and shaping waste glass, decorative objects crafted using glass cutting techniques, and original works of art achieved through the melting process. The works offer a visual feast while also strongly emphasizing the potential for environmental damage to be transformed into benefits. Visitors learned about the production processes of the works through information panels at the exhibition, raising awareness about both art and the environment.
The "Luminous Wastes" project was implemented with the support of not only the university community but also local governments and state institutions. At the event, representatives from the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Malatya Metropolitan Municipality, and various institutions who contributed to the project were thanked. Thanks were also extended to Malatya Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Secretary General Rıza Murat Türksoy, Head of the Department of Culture and Social Affairs Hamid Süha Hotar, Project Advisor Dr. Lecturer Mevlüt Anıl Fidan, Group President Veysel Tetik, and Project Coordinator Mustafa Karaman.
Participants expressed the importance of such projects in raising environmental awareness not only for art lovers but for all segments of society. After visiting the exhibition, art lovers expressed their belief that recycling awareness should be more fully integrated into daily life.
The exhibition once again demonstrated the powerful collaboration that art and environmental awareness can create.
